And now I’m a Mrs.

It’s been so long since I’ve written, I don’t know where to start. I’ve been saying for weeks – no, MONTHS – that I would pick up my laptop and just write something. Anything to get the words flowing again. But, as with anything, the longer you go without doing something, the easier it becomes to push it off another day. (Procrastination has always been my strong-point.)

But I’m here to break the cycle and reclaim my little corner of the Internet. If I could only figure out where to start…

I guess the big news these days is the fact that I’m no longer a Miss. That’s right, folks – as of last month, I’ve been promoted to Missus, and I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to get used to my new last name. It’s starting to flow a little easier now, but at first it felt a little strange. (Saying my new name – not being married. Being married hasn’t been strange at all. It’s been pretty fantastic, so far.)

The newly-named Mrs. Brown

The Mister and I got hitched on May 12 at Oak Island, a gorgeous antebellum property on Lay Lake. The day (like most wedding days, I suspect) was crazy-chaotic, but it was also crazy-fun and it flew by at warp-speed. Thank God for the insanely talented staff at our venue. They kept us on schedule and seriously made our day extra special. Throughout the planning process, I gave them very vague, general ideas of how I wanted the wedding to look, and they somehow took what I gave them and delivered BIG TIME. It was like they took images straight from my mind and made them a reality. I was beyond impressed.

Our guest book table

After the marathon that was our wedding week was over, we honeymooned at the Sandals resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. There are no words to describe our time on the island. Nothing I say can do it justice. From the exquisite grounds at the resort, to the gorgeous blue water that washed right up to our beach chairs, everything was so completely fabulous. We did a few adventure trips into the jungle, too, which was a nice change of pace. We rode ATVs through the rain, racing and weaving through an orange grove, zip lined through the lush canopy of trees the size of buildings, and took a relaxing tube trip down a river lined with tropical plants and bamboo shoots that reached more than three stories tall. Simply put, it was incredible.

Swim-up bar at our resort

And now we’re settling into married life. We bought our first house together a couple of months before the wedding, so we’ve been busy making it feel like home. We added a new puppy to our family, too – a six month old German Shepherd that’s quickly growing into a small bear. He’s been a good playmate for Maggie, who despite her smaller size, has already established that she is the boss in their relationship. Gunnar is too goofy to know any different, so he lets her wear the pants. Training has been exhausting, but he’s catching on. We’ve quickly fallen in love with our clumsy, big-pawed boy – even though he may soon eat us out of house and home.

Maggie and her new “little” brother

And that’s pretty much it. That’s our life right now. Sure there’s a lot more that could be said, but it will come later. For now, I’m going to just enjoy the fact that I actually managed to write a full post for the first time in longer than I care to admit. I’m counting it as a win.
